Fedom’s U12 National Championship will be dedicated to Dr. Edgar Augusto Féliz

Santo Domingo, D.N. – The Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom) announced this Monday that the VII National U12 Championship “Robinson Canó Cup” 2026 will be dedicated to Dr. Edgar Augusto Féliz Méndez, director of the Directorate of Social Assistance and Community Feeding (Dasac), in recognition of his constant support for the development of formative baseball in the country.

The announcement was made during a press conference held in the James Rodríguez Hall of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), led by the president of Fedom, Juan Núñez, together with the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz.

The national tournament will be held from June 10 to 14 at the IPL Academy facilities, located in El Toro de Guerra, Santo Domingo Este, and will bring together the top talents of Dominican youth baseball.

“As Minister of Sports, I feel proud of the work that the Dominican Baseball Federation carries out in favor of the development of our young baseball players. We are sure that this event will be a success once again,” expressed Kelvin Cruz.

For his part, Juan Núñez highlighted the permanent support provided by Edgar Augusto Féliz to the Federation and to the minor category tournaments.

“If today we exhibit great achievements in developmental baseball, it is thanks to the support of committed people like Dr. Edgar Féliz, who has always been present supporting each of our projects,” Núñez pointed out.

Participating teams

Group A will be composed of the provinces of Duarte, Valverde, Peravia, and Santo Domingo, the current two-time national champion.

While Group B will feature Santiago, Distrito Nacional, Bahoruco, and San Pedro de Macorís.

Inauguration and format

The opening ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10th at 1:30 in the afternoon.

The tournament will be played with two groups of four teams. Each side will play three matches in the regular phase, scheduled from June 10 to 11.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, scheduled for Saturday, June 12. The winners will compete for the gold medal and the losers will play for the bronze on Sunday the 14th.

The grand final will be held that same day at 2:00 in the afternoon.

Coverage and transmission

All championship matches will be broadcast on VTV Channel 32 and the digital platforms of Grupo de Medios Panorama, as part of the collaboration agreement signed between both entities in 2024.

During the group stage, four matches will be held daily at 9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.

Platform for future stars

The Robinson Canó Cup has established itself as one of the most important showcases for Dominican youth talent, also serving as a foundation for forming the national team that will represent the country in the upcoming WBSC Americas U-12 Pan American Championship, scheduled for November.

The event is supported by Miderec, Dasac, OMSA, and the Panorama Media Group.
