Toronto. Dominican former slugger José Bautista, one of the great figures of Major League Baseball in the last decade, was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, in an emotional ceremony held this Saturday in St. Marys, Ontario, recognizing his legacy with the Toronto Blue Jays, the franchise with which he played for ten seasons.

During the ceremony, Bautista —visibly moved— thanked the honor received while observing his name inscribed on the Rogers Centre Level of Excellence, a distinction reserved for the greatest icons of the organization.
“It’s surreal. It’s a good reminder of the time I spent here, a decade full of great moments and unforgettable memories,” said Bautista, who attended the event accompanied by his family, wearing the traditional white jersey of the Canadian team.
Bautista’s memorable bat-flip in the 2015 playoffs against the Texas Rangers —after a three-run home run— remains one of the most iconic images in recent baseball history. It was a moment that marked the return of the Blue Jays to the postseason after a 22-year absence.

José Bautista, who began his career in 2004 and played for eight teams in Major League Baseball, left his definitive mark in Toronto. In 2010, he hit 54 home runs, setting a club record. Furthermore, he was a six-time All-Star, a three-time Silver Slugger winner, and officially concluded his career in 2023, when he was also inducted into the team’s Level of Excellence.
“What I am most proud of is simply having been available. Being there to contribute and always give my best,” noted the former player, now a resident of Tampa, Florida.
Bautista joins other notable figures exalted in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2025, such as pitcher Erik Bedard, coach Greg Hamilton, and player Amanda Asay (posthumously exalted). Veterans Arleene Noga and Gerry Snyder were also included, in recognition of their historical contributions to baseball in Canada.
Bautista’s last season in the Majors was in 2018, when he played for the Atlanta Braves, the New York Mets, and the Philadelphia Phillies. However, his heart —and the fans’ affection— remained forever tied to Toronto.
