The African team surprised first in the match when Franck Kessié took advantage of a rebound inside the box to open the scoring in the 29th minute, momentarily silencing the German fans.

Despite dominating possession for much of the match, Julian Nagelsmann’s side found it difficult to break down Ivory Coast’s defensive structure. Chances from Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala were not enough to prevent the Germans from going into the break at a disadvantage.

Ivory Coast also suffered a major setback with the injury-enforced exit of Wilfried Singo in the 83rd minute, who left the pitch in tears due to a muscle discomfort.
