Kansas City, United States. – The Kansas City Chiefs secured the stay of their biggest star by agreeing to a contract restructuring with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who will remain with the franchise until the 2033 season through a deal valued at 504.75 million dollars.
The organization confirmed this Wednesday the contract extension of the two-time Most Valuable Player (MVP), consolidating a relationship that has transformed the Chiefs into one of the most successful franchises in the NFL over the last decade.
“He is our QB1 and you can’t have him”, the team posted on its social media when officially announcing the deal.
A new NFL record
According to reports from ESPN and NFL Network, the new contract structure adds $239.05 million to the existing agreement, raising the total value of the contract to $504.75 million between 2026 and 2033.
In addition, the agreement includes guarantees for the first four years and incentive clauses that could increase the total figure to 522.25 million dollars.
The new average annual salary of $64 million starting in 2027 sets a new historic mark for the NFL, reaffirming Mahomes’ status as one of the most valuable athletes in professional sports.

Since his arrival as a starter, Mahomes has revolutionized the franchise. Under his leadership, the Chiefs have played in five Super Bowls in the last six seasons, winning three championships and becoming a permanent powerhouse in the league.
In 2020, the quarterback had signed a 10-year extension worth $450 million, a deal that at the time represented the most lucrative contract awarded to a team athlete in the United States.
At 30 years old, Mahomes continues to expand a career that already places him among the best quarterbacks of all time.
Making satisfactory progress in their recovery
The past season represented a physical challenge for the star player, who suffered a ligament tear in his left knee during the month of December and subsequently underwent surgery.
However, his recovery process has evolved favorably. During the preseason, he has already participated in seven-on-seven sessions and has performed throws without apparent limitations.
Mahomes himself recently stated that he expects to be fully ready for the start of the 2026 NFL season in September.
