Santo Domingo. – Former Dominican weightlifter Yuderqui Contreras was officially announced as a new member of the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame, becoming one of the figures chosen for the 2026 Class of national sports immortality.

The induction ceremony will be held on November 15th, in a special event marking the institution’s 60th anniversary.

Contreras, a native of San Pedro de Macorís, is considered one of the most successful athletes in the history of Dominican and Latin American weightlifting. With her election, she joins the group of Dominican female weightlifters immortalized alongside Wanda Rijo, Guillermina Candelario, Miosotis Heredia, and Wendy Santana.
Throughout her career, Yuderqui accumulated an impressive collection of medals in international events, including World Championships, Pan American Games, Central American Games, and continental tournaments.
The outstanding athlete won 15 gold medals, seven silver, and several bronze, consolidating herself for years among the top exponents of the 53 and 58-kilogram categories.

His international projection began at the Santo Domingo 2003 Pan American Games, where he achieved two silver medals, marking the beginning of a career full of successes and recognition.

Contreras shone especially in World Championships, a stage where he achieved seven medals. His first great performance came in Doha 2005, when he obtained three bronze medals. Later, he stood out again in Antalya 2010 and Paris 2011.
She also dominated the Pan American and Central American area, setting records and winning regional titles that made her a benchmark for Dominican sports.
At the 2007 Rio Pan American Games, she set continental records with lifts of 95 kilos in the snatch, 112 in the clean and jerk, and 207 in total. She subsequently revalidated her supremacy in Guadalajara 2011.
Class of 2026
The president of the Permanent Committee of the Hall of Fame, Dr. Dionisio Guzmán, reported that there are now nine personalities chosen for the Class of 2026.
Among those selected are also former baseball players Darío Veras, Ricardo Joseph and Johnny Olivo; former basketball player Winston Royal; taekwondo athlete José Ramón Reyes; athlete Mariano Reyes; and the late journalist Domingo Saint Hilaire, recognized as a sports promoter.
