Dajabón. – The Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, ERD, made a working visit this Sunday to the border area of Dajabón, where he led a high-level meeting with the directors of the CODEVI Industrial Park, with the purpose of verifying the current situation and the measures adopted after the recent events that have affected their operations.
During the meeting, the high military command considered the strategic and socioeconomic importance of CODEVI operations, both for the Dominican Republic and Haiti, by generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs, promoting border stability and contributing to binational development.
Likewise, possible mechanisms of support and cooperation from the Armed Forces and their specialized dependencies were addressed, in order to strengthen perimeter security and guarantee a stable environment that favors the continuity of industrial operations in the area.
Minister Fernández Onofre reiterated that the Armed Forces maintain a firm commitment to peace, social development, and national economic progress, as established by one of the main objectives of the Institutional Strategic Plan, which promotes the integration of defense with development.
As part of his agenda in Dajabón, the head of MIDE also personally supervised the progress of the second stage of construction of the border perimeter fence, a flagship project of the Government that reinforces territorial control and contributes to national security, while facilitating orderly trade and cross-border cooperation.
The Minister of Defense was accompanied by the director of the Specialized Corps for Terrestrial Border Security (CESFRONT), the director of Plans and Operations of the Joint Staff of the MIDE (J3), and the general supervisor of the construction work of the border perimeter fence, along with other senior officers.
