Monte Plata.- A judge from the Judicial District of Monte Plata imposed 12 months of preventive detention on Juan Carlos Suárez López and Aneuris Adolfo Ortiz Ogando, accused of their alleged involvement in the robbery of an armored transport truck that occurred on July 13 in the municipal district of Don Juan.
The defendants must serve the measure at the Najayo Men’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center, after the court accepted the request submitted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Likewise, the magistrate granted the Prosecutor’s Office’s request for the proceedings to be declared a complex case, due to the nature of the facts under investigation and the various elements that are part of the investigation.
During the hearing, the Public Prosecutor’s Office presented the evidence that, according to the accusation, links the defendants to the assault, including a video that was allegedly incorporated into the case file.
In the same process, it was learned that the Public Prosecutor’s Office withdrew the request for a coercive measure against Remy Alberto González Adón and Benito Sánchez García, who were released pure and simple by order of the court.

The lawyer for Benito Sánchez García, who was also among those charged, explained that his client was linked to the investigation because the license plate of the vehicle allegedly used to commit the assault appeared registered in his name.
However, he maintained that said vehicle had been sold previously, so his client would not have any responsibility for the incident. The defense also indicated that the car had been the subject of a financing operation through the financial institution Rafa Espinal.

According to the request for coercive measures filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, approximately RD$12 million was stolen during the robbery from a truck belonging to the company Dominican Watchman National S.A.
According to the file, the assailants also allegedly stripped the crew members of two company-owned firearms and stole around 15 suitcases that were in the vehicle’s security compartment.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office provisionally attributes to the defendants the crimes of criminal association and aggravated robbery committed with violence and firearms.
With the imposition of 12 months of pretrial detention and the declaration of a complex case, the Public Prosecutor’s Office will have a longer procedural period to deepen investigations and determine the responsibilities of those involved in the assault.
