La Vega.- The body of a man, whose identity has not been established, was found charred this Friday next to a vehicle, in a mine located in the vicinity of the El Pino community, near the Duarte highway, in the province of La Vega.
The discovery was made during the morning, when authorities from the 9.1.1 Emergency System were alerted about a vehicle fire inside the mine.

Units from the Fire Department arrived at the scene and worked to extinguish the flames of the vehicle, which was completely burned.
After controlling the fire, agents from the Scientific Police and representatives from the Public Prosecutor’s Office arrived to begin investigations and collect evidence.

The corpse was removed by the medical examiner, Doctor Polanco, who explained that the body was in an advanced state of carbonization, which makes it difficult to establish its identity and other relevant information.
The forensic doctor indicated that, due to the conditions in which the body was found, it was only possible to preliminarily determine that it corresponds to a person of male sex.
“There is quite advanced carbonization and there is not much that can be identified,” the specialist explained.

The remains were transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences, Inacif of Santiago, to carry out the corresponding studies, with the purpose of determining their identity and establishing the circumstances and the approximate time of death.
The authorities have an ongoing investigation to determine the causes of the vehicle fire and clarify the circumstances under which the man died.
