Santiago. The death of a child of just two years old after being struck by a motorcycle that was allegedly traveling at high speed has generated deep dismay and indignation among the residents of the Villa Rosa sector, in the municipal district of West Santiago, who are demanding justice and greater road safety measures to prevent further tragedies.

The victim was identified as Luis de Javier de Jesús Méndez, who suffered serious injuries after being struck by a motorcycle while he was near the public road in an incident that occurred after 10:00 at night.

According to Juan Carlos Meléndez, the minor’s uncle, the driver was traveling at an excessive speed when the accident occurred. After the impact, the child was rushed to the Doctor Arturo Grullón Regional University Children’s Hospital, where he passed away around 3:00 a.m. while receiving medical attention.

The relatives maintain that the incident could have been avoided if the motorcyclist had respected the speed limits established for residential areas and acted with greater caution while driving.

After the incident, the motorcycle driver was detained by the authorities for investigation purposes, while inquiries continue to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and establish possible responsibilities.

The tragedy has reignited concerns among Villa Rosa residents regarding road safety in the community. Fausto Meléndez, the minor’s grandfather, denounced that several accidents have been recorded in the area due to the high speed at which some drivers travel through the sector’s streets.

Faced with this situation, family members and community members requested that municipal and traffic authorities install speed bumps, known as sleeping policemen, as well as other vehicle control measures that contribute to protecting pedestrians, especially children.

The death of Luis de Javier de Jesús Méndez has left deep sorrow among family members, neighbors, and loved ones, who hope that the case will be clarified and that the tragedy will prompt concrete actions to prevent further loss of life in the community.
