Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT) awarded 110 national scholarships to students from the Universidad Domínico Americano (UNICDA), who will pursue higher technical programs, bachelor’s degrees, engineering degrees and master’s degrees in various areas, with a special emphasis on STEM careers.
During the event, representing Minister Franklin García Fermín, Lanny Portorreal, director of the National Scholarships Directorate, highlighted the importance of these grants as a driver of development and social mobility, in addition to emphasizing the relevance of programs aligned with the demands of the national productive sector.
“Thousands of Dominican youths have found in these opportunities a path to strengthen their professional training and their ability to contribute to the country,” he expressed.
He recalled that, since the beginning of President Luis Abinader’s administration, MESCyT has awarded some 50,000 scholarships, both national and international, prioritizing young people in vulnerable conditions.
He stressed that each beneficiary student was selected after meeting the requirements established by the institution.
Among the academic programs in which the scholars will study are; higher technician in Software development. Also the undergraduate degrees, business administration, management of Tourist and Hotel Companies, artistic education, education, mention, Foreign Languages (English), Software engineering, cybersecurity engineering and Data Science engineering. In addition, Master’s in Data Science and Big Data, Master’s in Teaching and Management of Educational Technology and Master’s in the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language.
For his part, the rector of UNICDA, Ramón Sosa, underscored the value of collaboration with MESCyT, highlighting that “this alliance strengthens academic training and opens new opportunities for more young Dominicans to have access to a quality higher education in key areas for the country’s development.”

The scholarship recipient, Tuilli Yinet Peña Rodríguez, gave the thank you speech on behalf of her colleagues, who stated: “This scholarship is not only a personal achievement, but also a commitment to continue contributing to society with more preparation, responsibility and service.”
She also thanked the President of the Republic, Luis Abanador, for his vision and commitment to higher education in our country.

Previously, the institution awarded another sixty postgraduate scholarships to students from the Technological University of Barahona (UCATEBA) to pursue a master’s degree in educational research; eleven in mathematics, while, for undergraduate degrees, about thirty were awarded to study computer systems engineering, eleven for tourism, and the same number for nursing, among others.
