Asunción.- A total of 17 women in Paraguay have been victims of femicide at the hands of their current or former partners so far in 2026, which has left 33 orphans, the Public Ministry reported this Monday.
According to a report from the Public Prosecutor’s Office Open Data program, from January to this August 10, there were also 25 attempted femicides recorded, another three cases of attempted homicide, and six cases of severe assault against women by their ex-partners.

Of the total, 13 of the deceased were mothers and left 33 children orphaned, 24 of whom are under 18 years of age.
The age of the victims ranged from 12 to 80 years old, while the age of the aggressors is from 18 to 80.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office revealed that the majority of the women—seven—were assaulted by their ex-partners, six by their partners, and the rest by a stepfather, a son, and two acquaintances.
Almost all of the victims were Paraguayan (16), except for one Brazilian.
The report indicates that 13 cases occurred in homes and four on public roads.
In most cases, the attackers used bladed weapons (10), as well as firearms (3), while one victim died from asphyxiation and two from blunt force trauma.
Twelve alleged perpetrators were charged and five committed suicide.
A total of 37 women were murdered in Paraguay in 2025, in events that left 69 orphans.
