Santo Domingo.– The Bicameral Commission appointed to study the bill for Economic Growth Measures, Fiscal Simplification and Mitigation of the International Crisis, submitted by the Executive Branch, agreed during its first meeting, held this Monday, to invite the Minister of Finance and Economy, Magín Díaz, as well as representatives of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), to hear their considerations on the initiative.
During the working session, held in the Multipurpose Hall of the Senate of the Republic and led by the commission president, Senator Pedro Catrain, the full text of the bill and the communication sent to the Senate by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, were read.
The meeting included the participation of the President of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, who attended the start of the commission’s work.
As Senator Catrain explained, the reading of both documents was intended for all members to know in detail the content and scope of the legislative proposal.

Senator Catrain asked not to jump to conclusions and to allow the commission to carry out its work, while recalling that the Dominican Republic has faced significant challenges derived from various international crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and various armed conflicts that have impacted the global economy, and has been able to face them by taking pertinent measures.
One of the motivations of the piece states that fiscal and economic stability constitutes an essential element to preserve trust in institutions and foster a favorable environment for investment, job creation, and national productive development.
It highlights that it is necessary to promote good practices and regulatory instruments aimed at strengthening fiscal sustainability, the responsible management of public resources, and tax compliance, based on the principles of equity, progressivity, and ability to pay.
