Santo Domingo Norte.- Marta Fernández, a resident of Respaldo María Marcelino Street, in the Los Guaricanos sector, described the moment of the explosion that occurred on Wednesday morning at the “Pamky Yani” business, stating that the blast shook the entire community and caused moments of anguish among the neighbors.

The woman said she was in her home when she heard a loud bang that, at first, she thought came from a door in her house.

“I went out because I heard the noise. I thought it was a door in the house that had fallen down. When I went out, that was when I saw the smoke and people shouting. That was when I found out about everything,” he narrated.

Fernández stated that the explosion almost completely destroyed the establishment, which had been operating in the community for more than 30 years and was known for selling breakfasts, mangú, yaniqueques, juices, and soft drinks.

“Only one of the four freezers they had is left,” he/she expressed.

The resident explained that initially five people were affected, but four have already been discharged, while one remains hospitalized due to the severity of the burns.

“The one who is hospitalized was one of the most affected. He has very severe burns, but thank God there were no fatalities,” he indicated.

Regarding the possible causes of the incident, Fernández noted that the owner’s relatives told him that a leak in a gas tank allegedly caused the explosion.

“They say there were eight gas tanks and only one exploded. We are lucky because if the others had exploded, it would have taken out half the neighborhood,” he stated.

The explosion occurred around 7:24 in the morning at the “Pamky Yani” business, located on Respaldo María Marcelino street, in Los Guaricanos, Santo Domingo Norte. The incident left five people injured, of whom only one remains hospitalized, while authorities continue to investigate the causes of the incident.
