Brazil.– Neymar Jr. definitively confirmed his retirement from the Brazil national team, reiterating that he will not wear the Canarinha jersey again following the team’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The striker made the announcement following Santos’ qualification for the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana, reaffirming the statements he had made after Brazil’s defeat against Norway in the World Cup.
“My time with the national team is over. I made history, I was happy, and I gave my blood and my life. I always fought and struggled for the Canarinha. But I think I don’t want it anymore,” the attacker expressed.

Neymar’s farewell came weeks after Brazil’s elimination in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, a tournament in which he played just 55 minutes spread over two matches, both coming off the bench.
The 34-year-old forward ended a career of 130 matches and 80 goals with the senior national team, a figure that makes him Brazil’s all-time top scorer in official matches, surpassing Pelé’s 77 goals in recognized competitions.
Neymar debuted with the national team in 2010 and participated in four World Cups: Brazil 2014, Russia 2018, Qatar 2022, and United States-Canada-Mexico 2026. Although he was one of the main figures of Brazilian soccer for more than a decade, he never managed to win the world title.
