Santo Domingo. Businessman and communicator Santiago Matías assured that, if he reaches the Presidency of the Republic in 2028, he will repeal Decree 308-06, which regulates the hours for the sale of alcoholic beverages in corner stores, bars, nightclubs, casinos, and other entertainment centers.
During a message broadcast as part of his political project, Matías described the measure as “abusive” and “exclusionary,” considering that it restricts the freedoms of Dominicans while hotels and other establishments linked to tourism operate without the same limitations.
“For many years we have been sold that tourism is our oil, but Decree 308-06 limits the hours for the sale of alcoholic beverages in corner stores (colmados), nightclubs, bars, casinos, and entertainment centers. Only the poor are limited in free trade, free movement, and also free leisure,” he expressed.
The content creator also recalled that the decree was enacted on July 4, 2006, during the administration of former president Leonel Fernández, with the goal of reducing violence, criminality, robberies, and improving citizen security.

However, he maintained that, in his view, the measure has not achieved the expected results in terms of security.
Matías stated that, if he reaches the Presidency, he will eliminate the regulations to allow the operation of entertainment establishments without time restrictions.
“This decree will be repealed. There will be 24 hours of leisure for all Dominicans. What really needs to work is for the authorities to accompany the citizen when they want to go out on the street, share with their family, or enjoy themselves at any time of the day,” he stated.
