Santo Domingo. – According to the Dominican Republic’s Meteorology Institute (INDOMET), today, Wednesday, during the morning, we do not foresee significant accumulated precipitation over a large part of the country, with mostly sunny skies prevailing, except in some towns on the Atlantic coast where occasional short-lived showers could occur.
However, the forecast indicates that in the afternoon due to local effects associated with the diurnal cycle, as well as the incidence of a trough combined with the approach of a tropical wave, cloud increases will be generated accompanied by locally moderate showers, being strong at times, electrical storms and wind gusts over different locations in La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, Sánchez Ramírez, Puerto Plata, San José de Ocoa, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Monte Cristi, Dajabón, Elías Piña, Valverde, Espaillat and other nearby towns.
The Meteorological Alert level remains in effect due to the risk of urban flooding in various vulnerable sectors of the following provinces:

For tomorrow Thursday, the tropical wave will continue to move away from our forecast area. However, some humidity will remain, which, in combination with the incidence of a weak trough, as well as the daytime heating and the influence of the wind, will cause mainly after midday, local showers, isolated thunderstorms and possible wind gusts over different locations in the provinces located in the southeast, northwest, north and the Central Mountain Range.

We continue to monitor Tropical Storm Jerry, located tonight about 1435 km east/southeast of the northeast of the Lesser Antilles, with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph. It is moving west/northwest at 37 kph. Due to its geographical position, we remain attentive to the evolution and development of this meteorological system.
At the same time, we are monitoring an area of low pressure that is currently affecting the Yucatan Peninsula, expected to emerge over the Bay of Campeche in the next 24 hours. This system is producing an area of showers and disorganized thunderstorms and has a 10% probability of cyclonic development during the next two and seven days. This system does not pose a threat to the country.

However, in the afternoon, the incidence of a trough in combination with the humidity present in our forecast area, as well as the approach of a tropical wave, we foresee the occurrences of precipitation of different intensities accompanied by electrical storms and wind gusts over different provinces located on the Atlantic coast, the Central Mountain Range and the border area… Due to the risk of urban flooding, we maintain 3 provinces under meteorological alert… Tropical Storm Jerry, could become a hurricane today. Also, we are monitoring an area of showers and electrical storms with low cyclonic potential.
On Friday, the incidence of an anticyclonic system will be inhibiting the cloud developments that generate significant rainfall, mainly in the morning hours over a large part of the Dominican territory. However, the influence of the wind and local effects will cause local showers, isolated thunderstorms and possible wind gusts in some towns of the provinces; Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, San Juan, Elías Piña, Dajabón, as well as in some towns of the Central Mountain Range, the southwest and northwest.
