Barahona, DR.– An 11-year-old girl lost her life after drowning in the pool of a recreational center located in sector 40 of the Vicente Noble municipality, in the Barahona province, in an incident that is being investigated by the authorities.
The victim was identified as Yoselina Simón Char, of Haitian nationality. According to preliminary reports, the minor had gone to the establishment with her eight-year-old brother, without the company of her parents or any other responsible adult.
The diagnosis issued by the forensic doctor establishes that the cause of death was asphyxia by submersion.
As part of the investigation, authorities are reviewing footage captured by the recreational center’s surveillance cameras, which recorded the moment the incident occurred and will serve as evidence in the investigation.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office is keeping the establishment’s manager, Darío Vallejo Matos, and the owner, Pablo Méndez Medina, under investigation while it is determined whether there were failures in security measures, supervision, or service protocols within the business.
The minor’s body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) to perform the corresponding autopsy, a procedure that is part of the judicial process.
The authorities indicated that they will continue the investigations to clarify the circumstances in which the tragedy occurred and establish any responsibilities that may arise from the case.
