London (EFE).- Liverpool announced this Monday the signing of Alexander Isak, for 145 million euros, plus five in variables, which can increase the total cost to 150 million euros.

The Swedish striker thus becomes the most expensive transfer in the history of English football, surpassing the 125 million that Liverpool themselves paid for Florian Wirtz this summer, although it is still far from the 200 million euros that Paris Saint-Germain paid for Neymar Júnior in 2017.
Isak’s transfer was unstuck this Sunday, after several weeks of uncertainty. Liverpool initially offered 110 million pounds (127 million euros) for him, clarifying that it would be their only offer, but Newcastle rejected it, valuing the player at, at least, 150 million pounds (173 million euros).
Isak, to force his departure, did not participate in the team’s preseason, was excluded from several activities with his teammates, has trained separately for weeks and has not been included in the squads for the three Premier League matches.
In his social media, he went so far as to claim that “promises had been broken” and that “a change was best” for everyone, to which Newcastle responded that no offer had been received that met their demands.
However, the signing of Nick Woltemade for 80 million euros – the most expensive in Newcastle’s history – has helped unlock the situation and Isak will be a Liverpool player this season.

The Swede completes a transfer market in which the ‘Reds’ have spent close to 500 million euros on the incorporations of Florian Wirtz (125), Hugo Ekitike (95), Milos Kerkez (47), Jeremie Frimpong (40) and Giovanni Leoni (31).

Isak, who arrived in the Premier League in 2023 from Real Sociedad, has played 109 matches for Newcastle, scoring 62 goals and providing eleven assists. With the ‘Magpies’ he has won a League Cup, as well as playing in the Champions League.
At 25 years old, he makes the move to a big club that wanted him this summer and will force Arne Slot to rethink his starting eleven, after Ekitike, playing in the ‘nine’ position, has scored three goals in his first four matches.
