In the Gregorian calendar, July is the seventh month of the year and has 31 days. Originally, this month was the fifth of the primitive Roman calendar and its name was Quintilis.

Initially, it had 36 days, but it was reduced to 31 by King Romulus and later to 30 by the second king of Rome, Numa Pompilius. Finally, it acquired the 31 days it currently retains by decision of the Roman dictator Julius Caesar.
