Santo Domingo Este.– Ángela Sarante, sister of the merengue artist Julián Oro Duro, stated this Tuesday morning that Zeneida Socorro Castillo, the artist’s wife, was not just her sister-in-law, but that she considered her a sister, and affirmed that the people who allegedly committed the crime were known to the victim.
Sarante offered these statements upon his arrival at the Blandino funeral home on Sabana Larga Avenue, where the remains of Castillo, 60, are being waked. She died after being attacked at the residence she shared with Julián Oro Duro, in the Brisa Oriental 6 sector, in Santo Domingo East.

“Zeni was not my sister-in-law, she was like my sister,” stated Ángela, who also maintained that, in her opinion, those responsible for the act were people the victim knew.
When questioned about why she made that statement, she replied: “A person she knew.”

The artist’s sister explained that Castillo was a very careful woman when it came to allowing people access to the home.
“She was very cautious about opening doors. When she opened the door, it was because she knew the person,” he/she stated.
Regarding Julián Oro Duro’s health status, Ángela Sarante said that her brother remains in a delicate condition due to the injuries he sustained during the attack.

“My brother is in a delicate condition because they broke this bone here in three places. They wounded him three times in the head. He has an eye that he might lose,” he declared.
Investigating the attack
The National Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office are keeping the investigation open to determine the circumstances under which the attack occurred and to establish who was responsible.
According to information provided by the authorities, Castillo was found lifeless in the home, while Julián Oro Duro was injured and was transported to the General Hospital of the Plaza de la Salud (HGPS).
Prosecutor Wilson Díaz reported that investigators are collecting evidence and reviewing security camera footage to determine the number of people who entered the residence. Preliminarily, it has been suggested that there may have been two individuals.
The HGPS reported that, upon admission, the artist presented multiple traumas in the frontal and parietal regions of the head, in addition to injuries in other parts of the body. Upon arrival, he was conscious, alert, and with stable vital signs.
The investigation remains open and authorities are still working to establish how the attackers entered the home, as well as the motive for the incident.
