Santo Domingo. – Within the framework of the commemoration of World Tourism Day, this September 27th, the Dominican Republic celebrates this event for the first time with a historic recognition: the recent declaration of Dajabón as an ecotourism province, thanks to the initiative of congresswoman Daritza Zapata, author of the law that made this long-awaited aspiration for the border region a reality.
The legislator emphasized that this designation is not a symbolic title, but a starting point to transform Dajabón into a reference destination. “This new condition will guarantee an annual allocation for works and infrastructure that improve the quality of the ecotourism service, in addition to giving priority to our province within the national plans of tourism, environment, infrastructure and culture,” Zapata affirmed.
The congresswoman emphasized that the law places Dajabón on the map as a hub for sustainable investment and tourism, while also protecting its natural resources, promoting the conservation of its biodiversity, and boosting the local economy, generating decent jobs for young people and families in the area.
Platform “Dajabón Vívelo”
As part of this comprehensive vision, the congresswoman presented the platform “Dajabón Vívelo”, which will be launched at the ecotourism fair on October 21 at the Embajador Hotel in Santo Domingo. The event will bring together representatives from the central government, international organizations, tourism agencies, investors, and community leaders with the aim of projecting Dajabón as a destination of opportunities, talent, and sustainability from the border.

The fair will feature cultural exhibitions, handicrafts, panels, business rounds, sensory experiences, and tastings of local production, establishing itself as a showcase to display the natural, cultural, and social richness of the province.
“Dajabón not only has what it takes to become a benchmark for ecotourism, but it also has a community ready to take the lead in its own development. Dajabón Vívelo is an invitation to discover, value, and bet on our province,” Zapata expressed.

The legislator thanked the Dajabón Tourism Cluster, who is also working hard on Dajabón Vívelo, as well as the Senate of the Republic and the Tourism Commission for supporting this initiative. “Today we celebrate that a destination of national pride is born from Dajabón. This is only the beginning of a new stage for our province, which is now consolidated as a model of ecotourism on the border,” she pointed out.
The Dominican Republic commemorates World Tourism Day by reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development, with an increasingly varied offer, while Dajabón emerges as a symbol of innovation, conservation, and opportunities from the heart of the northern border.
