They report that a man with Alzheimer’s is being held in the Hainamosa police station

Santo Domingo.— Francis Mateo Soriano denounced an alleged abuse of power against his father, Francis Mateo, a man over 70 years old who suffers from Alzheimer’s and remains detained at the Hainamosa police station due to an alleged default order related to a land dispute.

According to Soriano’s account, his father has resided for more than 20 years on land located in El Higüero, belonging to La Cuaba in Pedro Brand, while a man identified as Omar Osiris Ruiz allegedly acquired adjacent land approximately four years ago.

The complainant asserts that since then, conflicts related to the property have occurred and that his father has been summoned on several occasions to legal proceedings which, he claims, have not been duly notified to the family.

Family questions man’s detention

Francis Mateo Soriano reported that his father was transferred by the authorities and that the family initially did not know where he had been taken.

According to what was explained, several people were in the home when the agents arrived to look for him, but they allegedly did not inform them of the reason for the arrest or the place to which he would be taken.

The family began their search and subsequently located him around 4:00 in the afternoon at the Hainamosa detachment, after he had been transferred there since the morning hours.

Soriano maintains that this would not be the first time his father has been sought through an arrest warrant for contempt of court.

Absence of the other party noted

The relative explained that a hearing was scheduled for this Thursday, which had initially been set for the 4th and was subsequently moved to August 13.

However, according to his version, during the hearing the person who allegedly initiated the proceedings against his father did not appear again.

Soriano stated that the family’s lawyers requested that measures be taken to resolve his father’s situation, taking into account his age and health condition.

“A gentleman with Alzheimer’s cannot be in a detachment for a full week”, expressed the complainant, who questioned that his father remains detained while waiting for the process to continue.

The family maintains that the case is related to the conflict over the land where the man has resided for decades and asks that the authorities review the situation and ensure that his rights are respected.

Land disputes and judicial processes

Conflicts related to land and property rights can lead to legal proceedings when the parties maintain opposing positions regarding the ownership, possession, or use of a property. In these cases, it is up to the courts to hear the claims and evaluate the evidence presented by each of the parties.
