Santo Domingo.– The murder of Rosa Marte, known as “Rosita”, has shocked the country due to the way in which, according to the Public Ministry’s investigations, she was deceived by her own daughter-in-law, Dominican Air Force sergeant Mariely Figuereo Ramírez, who is currently in preventive detention while the judicial process moves forward.
Below is the chronology of events:
July 9: the call that started it all
On the morning of July 9, 2026, Rosita was preparing to head to her workplace from her residence in the Barraquito sector, in the Villa Riva municipality, Duarte province, when she received a call from her daughter-in-law.
According to the Public Prosecutor’s file, Mariely Figuereo informed her that her son had suffered an accident and was admitted to a health center, so she had to accompany her to see him. Convinced that it was an emergency, Rosita left her home with the accused around 7:30 in the morning.
The route captured by the cameras
Investigations establish that both boarded a taxi bound for a medical center located in the Gascue sector, in the National District.

Subsequently, they requested another taxi service to Duarte Avenue, where they boarded a bus bound for the Southern region. The movements were documented through surveillance cameras analyzed by the Public Ministry and the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Dicrim).
Crime in Azua
During the journey, the accused asked the bus driver to stop near a cemetery, next to a scrap metal yard, in the Las Guanábanas section, Azua province.
According to the investigation, he took Rosita to a brush area, where he allegedly attacked her with stones until causing her death.

July 18: discovery of the body
Nine days after her disappearance, on July 18, authorities located Rosa Marte’s body in a state of decomposition.
The autopsy report from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) determined that the victim died due to cerebral hemorrhage and traumatic brain injury, injuries consistent with the assault described in the investigation.
The investigation and the arrest
With the evidence collected, including surveillance camera footage and other investigative procedures, the authorities obtained arrest warrant No. 2026-AJ0060826, issued by the Permanent Attention Court of Azua, with which Mariely Figuereo Ramírez was detained.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office provisionally classified the act as murder, typified in articles 295, 296, 297, and 302 of the Dominican Penal Code.
Three months of pretrial detention
This July 30, the substitute judge of the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Azua, Ydaisa E. Medina Estepan, accepted the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s request and imposed three months of pretrial detention on the defendant.
The sergeant must serve the coercive measure at the Azua Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), while the Public Prosecutor’s Office continues to deepen the investigations to support the accusation against her.
